Cannabis Flower

Reading a flower label

Labels on dried cannabis must show Total THC and Total CBD in milligrams per gram (mg/g). Total THC includes the THCA that can convert into THC. Some packages also list THC and CBD separately, but since March 2025 federal rules require only the totals. The label also shows a packaging date, the net weight and a lot number. Our guide on how to read a cannabis label in Canada covers the rest of the package, including expiry dates.

Indica, sativa and hybrid: what the tag tells you

Each flower is tagged indica, sativa or hybrid, and the Type filter at the top of the menu shows one type at a time. The terms describe how the plant grows and its lineage. They are not required label information and they say nothing about THC or CBD content, so check the totals as well. There is more on this in indica, sativa or hybrid: how to choose.

Package sizes

Flower is listed in packages from 3.5 g to 28 g. Pre-rolls and other products in the same order count toward it; the federal possession limit calculator shows how each product type converts.

Storing flower at home

Keep flower in its original package and follow the storage conditions printed on the label, which may cover light, temperature or humidity. Health Canada advises keeping cannabis locked away and out of sight and reach of children and pets.
